BCAA record crucian 4lb 8oz

21st August 2008. Member Tony Etherington catches what must be the biggest Crucian Carp ever caught on the canal. I was fishing on the canal at Great Bottom Flash in Ash Vale. It had been a quiet morning until about 11:30, and then I had a few bream, a tench, a small crucian of 1lb 14oz. Soon afterwards I was stuck into the big one! I’ve caught many large crucians in the past, my previous best being 3lb 12oz, but this one just hammered that!

July 2009 Member Les Vaughan has been out and about on the canal again in the early season. Les caught the fishing bug again after a long lay-off, at the start of the 2008-2009 season. Since then, he has already clearly become something of a carp specimen hunter – see pictures below From June and July 2009.

June 2010 Member Robert Richbell is the first to send in a few piccies of decent catches in the early season. Hi A couple of carp I had in around an hour and a half yesterday (Thursday 24 June 2010) in the canal not far from Eelmoor flash. Both fish taking surface baits, the 1 with the chap with a funny hat was a shade over 17lb, the other was 22lb. I also missed 2 other good bites and then the 2 adult swans and 6 cygnets arrived so it was time to call it quits.

5lb 6oz Bream for Terry McAnish

July 2009 Having spent many happy years fishing with Adventure in the early 70's I decided to re-tackle up and start again. On Wednesday 22/7/09 in a swim between Broad Oak Bridge and the By-pass bridge I hit into a shoal of bream whilst fishing sweetcorn for tench and carp. I took out a 3lb bream and had many bites. Around 5pm my rod took off from my rod rest and I hit a very big carp but unfortunately there is a snag near the towpath and lost it.

31st August 2008. New member Les Vaughan has found, like many of us, that taking your son along the canal to teach him a bit of fishing is the spark which re-ignites your own love of fishing after a long lay-off. Les was delighted to catch the tench shown below on his first outing on the canal. Caught at Eelmoor Flash, it may not be the biggest in the world, but it was welcome nonetheless. Well done Les!.
